Mental breathing space
Give yourself permission to pause notifications, leave the screen and take a moment before the next task. This is time for you, rather than another performance target.
A small break. A shared challenge. A kinder working day.
Make a meeting with yourself.
Then invite someone else to make time for themselves, too.
Choose your own route: optionally join with your email, book a five-minute break or share the challenge. You can go straight to your one-month Jyoti trial at any time. Gentle movement, breathing or a moment away from the screen — make it work for your day.
JYOTI CHALLENGESHARE WITH
No competition. No public leaderboard. Just a small commitment to make room for yourself during the working day.
Joining the challenge is free. App subscriptions and trials are separate.
We’re Jyoti Harvey and Alan Spong, co-founders of Jyoti Yoga & Wellness. We started this challenge for people working from home, between meetings, in offices and across busy organisations — including NHS and healthcare staff.
MSK problems affect people, employers and health services. We want to do our small part in a wider effort to make movement breaks more normal and support healthier working habits, alongside the work of the NHS, healthcare and health maintenance organisations, and employers. Reducing the wider burden on patients, families and public services matters to us.
That is our ambition, not a measured result: Jyoti is not a cure or treatment for MSK conditions, and we do not claim the challenge prevents injuries, reduces patient numbers or cuts healthcare costs. It complements appropriate workplace support and professional care.
Stress, mental wellbeing and musculoskeletal (MSK) concerns belong in the workplace wellbeing conversation. A diary full of meetings should still leave room for you.
Give yourself permission to pause notifications, leave the screen and take a moment before the next task. This is time for you, rather than another performance target.
MSK problems affect muscles, joints and the back. HSE recommends short, frequent screen breaks or changes of activity, with opportunities to move and change posture.
Book a five-minute meeting with yourself. Invite a colleague or friend to protect their own break — no pressure to join in and no need to share personal health information.
HSE estimates that work-related stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 22.1 million lost working days in Great Britain in 2024/25; work-related MSK disorders accounted for 7.1 million. These figures explain the wider context, not the effects of this challenge. Read the figures · HSE guidance on screen breaks.
The challenge is general wellbeing, not treatment for stress, mental ill health or MSK conditions. It complements suitable work breaks, workplace adjustments and professional support.
Your diary has room for everyone else.
Put yourself in it.
Pick one gap between calls. Pause notifications. Step away from the screen if you can, choose comfortable movement or take a moment to breathe naturally.
Optional: explore the free desk movement guide
Move within your comfort and ability; stop if you feel pain or dizziness. Short breaks are part of a working day, not a substitute for workplace risk controls or clinical care.

Choose when to take your break. Download a calendar invitation or open Google Calendar, then review and save it in your own diary.
This creates a personal reminder. It does not book a live class or reserve an appointment with a teacher.
